Off to their best start since 2006, Woodstock swept its way past county-rival Cherokee (25-12, 25-0) and North Cobb Christian (26-24, 25-21) on Aug. 26.

The wins extended the Lady Wolverines’ string of success, which includes a runner-up finish in the Gold Bracket of the Forsyth Challenge on Aug. 21, to 10 victories in their last 11 matches for an 11-3 overall mark.
Woodstock, which won just eight matches in 2009 and no more than 13 in each of the last three seasons, started 10-3 in 2006 before finishing the year at 21-10.
“We are playing well and playing as a team,” Woodstock coach Karen Baker said. “This team has great chemistry and they really pull for each other.”
Leading the way for the Lady Wolverines in their play date against Cherokee and North Cobb Christian, Jessica Carroll totaled 19 kills, six blocks and four assists, while Emma Graf tallied 11 kills and 7.5 blocks, Sara Graf raked in 10 digs, eight kills and 6.5 blocks, Paige Trammell finished with 18 digs and Grace Townsend posted 51 assists and eight digs.
Carroll (33 kills, 19 digs), Townsend (116 assists), Sara Graf (15 kills, 21 digs), Emma Graf (23 kills), Trammell (34 digs) and Carissa Bell (31 kills, 15 digs, 18 aces) paced Woodstock’s efforts in the Forsyth Challenge, as the Lady Wolverines defeated Berkmar, North Murray, North Forsyth, Forsyth Central and Brookwood, before falling to county-rival Creekview in the championship.

Lady Chiefs win in Edwards’ return to Creekview
Carley Roberts tallied 11 kills, six digs, four aces and a pair of blocks and Courtney O’Brien contributed nine assists, seven digs and three aces, as the Sequoyah Lady Chiefs defeated rival Creekview 27-25, 25-13, 25-22, Aug. 26 at Creekview.
The non-area bout was Lady Chiefs’ head coach John Edwards’ first trip back to Creekview since departing the program he started five years ago for the Sequoyah job over the summer.
Despite a strong effort, the Lady Grizzlies could not overcome the Lady Chiefs’ balanced attack, which included seven digs and four kills from Ivy Holloway, five kills and 2.5 blocks from Brittnee Jones, and six digs and four aces from Katelyn Wienbarg. Maddie Smith added nine digs for Class AAAAA ninth-ranked Sequoyah (6-2), and Becca Graham finished with 12 assists and three digs.
Leading Creekview were Jessica Udall (15 digs), Blake Fountain (11 digs, nine kills), Erika Fahrnbauer (five kills, five digs), Peyton Airington (six kills) and Jessica Estes and Ellen Cupp with nine assists each.

Etowah takes a pair
Jenna Wilt went for 14 kills and Becca Hannigan added 10, and the Etowah

Lady Eagles swept a tri-match date with victories over North Cobb (25-23, 25-19) and Woodland (25-12, 25-11) on Aug. 26.
Also contributing to the success of the Lady Eagles (9-4) were Jayme Blosser with 35 assists and three aces, Paige Schadevel with 33 digs and Samantha Scaglione with 27 digs. Wilt and Megan Emery pitched in three aces each as well.

Cherokee comes up short
Ashley White picked up 22 digs, Vivianne Jewell finished with four kills and Taylor Revenew had 15 digs, but it was not enough as the Cherokee Lady Warriors suffered a three-set defeat to Norcross (11-25, 25-20, 14-25) on Aug. 24.
The Lady Warriors also dropped matches to Milton, Woodstock and North Cobb Christian last week.
Complementing her Norcross performance, White had 13 digs against Milton, while Revenew (16 digs), Kaitlynn Hufstetler (15 assists) and Wendy Connor (13 digs) led the way against Woodstock, and Ami Everett (17 digs) and Shae Stevens (14 digs) topped Cherokee’s efforts versus North Cobb Christian.

Creekview captures first tournament title
Playing just one game over the minimum, the Creekview Lady Grizzlies earned their first tournament title in program history on Aug. 19, posting a 6-0 mark to win the Gold Bracket of the Forsyth Challenge.

The Lady Grizzlies defeated Pinecrest (25-7, 16-25, 25-10), the Walker School (25-21, 25-10) and West Forsyth (25-15, 25-5) in pool play on their way to reaching the Gold Bracket, where they knocked off Centennial (25-19, 25-14) in the first round, Ringgold (25-15, 25-16) in the semifinals and Woodstock (25-12, 25-22) in the championship.
Peyton Airington led the way for Creekview in the tournament with 33 kills, 10 blocks and 13 aces, while Erika Fahrnbauer had 36 kills and six blocks, Blake Fountain totaled 23 kills and 12 digs, setters Jessica Estes and Ellen Cupp tallied 45 and 38 assists, respectively, and Jessica Udall and Kayley Earley combined for 47 digs.

River Ridge picks up JV wins
Building a little momentum heading into the start of the varsity portion of their schedule, the River Ridge Lady Knights split their first four junior varsity matches.
After dropping a tight, three-set affair to Etowah (15-25, 25-21, 24-26), the Lady Knights knocked off Woodstock (25-12, 25-18).
River Ridge then lost to Blessed Trinity in two games, before rebounding with a 25-21, 25-21 sweep of Chattahoochee.
