Holding its annual awards banquet Monday evening at First Baptist Church of Canton, the Cherokee Gridiron Club honored the county’s best on and off the field for the 2011 season.
Creekview senior receiver Riley Davis, a Class AAAA Second Team All-State Selection was named the Gridiron Club Player of the Year. Davis, who transferred to Creekview in the fall after being homeschool is previous high school seasons, had 50 catches for 1,012 yards and nine touchdowns for the Grizzlies.
Other receiving top honors were Co-Offensive Players of the Year were running backs Blake Ingleton, of Sequoyah, and E.J. Ellis, of River Ridge; Co-Defensive Players of the Year in Woodstock’s Trey Alexander and Etowah’s Michael McCauley; Offensive Back of the Year Devonte Wheaton, of Etowah; Quarterback of the Year Hayden Hall, of Creekview; Offensive Lineman of the Year Hunter Collett, of Cherokee; Receiver of the Year Barrett Burns, of Etowah; Co-Defensive Linemen of the Year Nick Rowell, of Etowah, and Mitchell Smith, of Sequoyah; Linebacker of the Year Jebrai Regan, of Woodstock; Defensive Back of the Year Brandon Goodman, of Etowah; Kicker of the Year Ryan Hopper, of Etowah; Punter of the Year Austin Bennett of River Ridge; and Returner of the Year Obie Myers, of Sequoyah.
