With an automatic bid into the Georgia Independent School Association state tournament on the line, the Furtah Prep Falcons dominated visiting Praise Academy, 88-30, Friday night in Acworth.
The win kept the Falcons perfect at 23-0, and, more importantly, improved the squad to 8-0 in Region 4-IAA—sealing the regular season region title and a berth in the upcoming GISA state tournament, which begins Feb. 16.
“I was a little concerned that we might overlook this game, knowing we had a big match-up with Dominion Christian [Saturday] night,” Falcons Head Coach Eugene Fries said. “But the guys came out strong and played hard.”
Coming off a 31-point, 15-rebound effort in Furtah’s win over the Weber School on Jan. 25, center Matt Scott charted another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Oliver Wronowski led all scorers with 20 points, while Jordan Jones pitched in 10 points and seven rebounds, Joseph Humphrey scored nine points, and Dusan Langura pulled eight boards.
Adding to their season win total, the Falcons outscored Dominion by 13 in the first quarter and never looked back, cruising to a 76-51, homecoming victory.
Humphrey and Scott (12 rebounds, eight blocks) each scored 17, while Braxton Witherspoon helped spark Furtah with 15 points and 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Also contributing, Langura had eight points, and Jones tallied nine rebounds and six blocks.
Looking to finish out a perfect regular season, Furtah (24-0) was to take on LaGrange Academy on Jan. 31, before traveling to Harvester on Friday and hosting Colonial Hills Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Falcons will then battle in their region tournament, Feb. 7-10.
