Etowah High School product Tyler Blackwell poured in a season-high 22 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field and added three assists, and the Reinhardt Eagles outscored homestanding Point University by 19 in the second half en route to a 70-54 victory Jan. 25 in East Point.
In addition to Blackwell’s outing, Ishmael John had 20 points and six steals, David Lawson finished with 16 points off the bench, and Matt Porter had a team-high seven rebounds for the Eagles (12-10, 7-3 Appalachian Athletic Conference).
Reinhardt finished out the week with its third-straight win, knocking off conference rival Virginia Intermont, 67-58, Saturday in Waleska.
John (six rebounds, three steals) and Lawson netted 18 points each to lead the Eagles’ scoring. Jerome Carmichael contributed 11 points, Porter totaled nine points and 10 rebounds, and Luke Joseph had five blocked shots.

Lady Eagles hold off Point
After jumping out to a 19-point advantage by the half, the Reinhardt Lady Eagles held off a second-half comeback to down Point University, 58-48, Jan. 25 in East Point.
Kareen Abling led a balanced Lady Eagles’ scoring attack with eight point. Rebbeca Yarbrough scored seven, while Ann Wilcher (three blocks) and former Creekview High standout Danielle Tidwell added six points apiece.
Unable to fend off a second-half rally, Reinhardt (11-12, 6-5 AAC) let a five-point halftime lead slip away on Saturday and fell to visiting Virginia Intermont, 71-66.
Yarbrough scored a season- and game-high 20 points in the loss. Jordan Marsh, meanwhile, finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Erin Courington had game bests of 13 boards, four assists and three steals.

Chattahoochee falls at Central Georgia Tech
Despite hot shooting from freshman point guard Sean Tate, the Chattahoochee Golden Eagles dropped a 64-58 decision to Central Georgia Tech Jan. 25, in Macon.
Tate, who knocked down 4-of-8 from the field and all nine of his attempts from the free throw line, led the Golden Eagles (14-7) with 18 points and dished out eight assists, while center Asauhn Dixon-Tatum had 12 points and nine rebounds, Darius Miller scored 11.

FGCU tops KSU men
Markeith Cummings scored 20 points to lead four Kennesaw State Owls in double figures, but the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles overcame three second half ties to pull away and defeat the Owls, 92-74, Saturday at Alico Arena in an Atlantic Sun Conference match-up.
The Owls (3-19, 0-10 A-Sun) battled back from a, 39-32, halftime deficit by scoring the first seven points of the second half, and were tied, 47-47, with 12:35 remaining, before an 8-0 run by the Eagles would put them out in front for the rest of the contest.
Cummings’ 20 led all scorers. Complementing the Owls’ junior guard were Spencer Dixon (17 points), Delbert Love (16), and Aaron Anderson (15). Anderson also had 11 rebounds for his third straight double-double.

KSU womens fall short in upset bid
The Kennesaw State women’s basketball team gave Atlantic Sun Conference-leading Florida Gulf Coast all it could handle before falling, 58-51, Saturday at Alico Arena, in Fort Myers.
The loss dropped the Lady Owls to 9-13 (4-7 A-Sun) on the year, while the win pushed the Eagles’ (19-2) winning streak to 11-straight.
Owls’ junior guard Chelcey Farrar, who scored 15 in KSU’s loss to Stetson on Jan. 26, finished with her first career double-double, posting 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds, while Sametria Gideon also had a double-double with 11 and 10.
