Cobb EMC has received approval from Cobb County Superior Court Judge Stephen Schuster to combine upcoming substitute 2009 and 2010 annual meetings originally scheduled for Feb. 18 and May 12, according to Sam Kelly, Cobb EMC senior vice president of public relations. One meeting, where members may vote in person on board of directors members, will be held March 31.
The move is expected to save money for the nonprofit electric membership cooperative’s almost 200,000 members; 40,000 of them are Cherokee County residents.
“Even though the original dates for the elections had been staggered for an orderly transition onto the board of new board members, it was agreed by all that the cost savings to members of a combined meeting was paramount,” said Cobb EMC President and CEO Chip Nelson.
The EMC is publicizing the election date change through local media, the Cobb EMC Web site, the e-newsletter and bill inserts, as well as by official mailed notices to members regarding the meeting.
The March 31 elections will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church in Marietta, the site of two previous member meetings. Director Elections for areas 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9 will be held.
No incumbents will run for re-election in upcoming elections, Kelly told the Ledger-News after the Nov. 12 elections.
Areas 5, 6 and 9 include the Cherokee County service area, but members can vote in all areas’ elections.
Candidates who already have qualified for the 2009 elections (areas 2, 3 and 9) are: Area 2, Charlie Jones; Area 3, Kelly Bodner and Bill Hutson; and area 9, Eric Broadwell, of Roswell, and Gregory Haines, of Woodstock.
Qualifiers for the 2010 elections (areas 4,5 and 8), include: Area 4, David Lombrozo and Lonnie Ayers; area 5, John Wallace and Scott Chadwick and Vern Krawagna; and, area 8, Bryan Boyd, William Clements, Nina Frey, Tim Gaze and Mike Simard.
All candidates for the March 31 elections must qualify by
March 2.
