Woodstock OKs 2014 budget

The Woodstock City Council at its June 17 meeting unanimously approved the 2014 fiscal year budget. With a slightly higher tax digest, before appeals, the $33.8 million proposed budget is more positive than it has been in years past.

Ball Ground man wins Fantasy 5 prize

A Ball Ground pest control operator has trapped something bigger and better than any rodent or bug. According to a Georgia Lottery press release, David Lawson, 56, has captured a lush Georgia Lottery prize after playing Fantasy 5. Lawson is one of the two winners from the April 13 Fantasy 5 drawing. Both winners matched all five numbers to each win a $261,766 jackpot prize.

Ball Ground officials mull slightly higher budget, approve contribution to county economic development

The city of Ball Ground will be operating on a slightly higher budget starting July 1. At its May 9 meeting, the Ball Ground City Council approved, 4-0, the first reading of the $1.7 million budget.

Cherokee school district issues RFP for maintenance

On Friday, the Cherokee County School District issued request for proposals for grounds maintenance services and custodial maintenance services, taking the first step in determining whether it is financially feasible for the district to privatize those services, which would affect the jobs of about 240 maintenance workers currently employed by the school system.
