Loudermilk to host art contest this month

Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., announced the kick-off of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition, a contest that recognizes the artistic talents of high school students in the 11th Congressional District and nationwide.

Ball Ground awarded grant for new newer pump station, line

The City of Ball Ground recently was awarded a $173,200 Georgia Fund loan by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) board of directors to finance constructing a new sewer pump station and a sewer line from the existing sewer system to Holcomb Crossing.

GDOL to help Comcast recruit employees Jan. 9

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will host a recruiting event for Comcast on Friday, Jan. 9, from noon to 2 p.m. at the GDOL’s Cobb-Cherokee Career Center, located at 465 Big Shanty Road in Marietta.

Carson sets 2015 town hall meeting schedule

State Rep. John Carson, R-Marietta, who represents northeast Cobb and southeastern Cherokee, has teamed with state Sen. Judson Hill, R-Marietta, to hold a series of town hall meetings during the 2015 session of the Legislature. The meetings are set for Jan. 20, Feb. 16 and March 23. All meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mountain View Regional Library, 3320 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta.

Woodstock P&Z case postponed

A Woodstock-based developer, who is seeking to build nine single-family detached homes at the corner of Linton Street and Main Street in downtown Woodstock has requested that a hearing with planning and zoning be postponed, according to city officials.

Shelter to waive adoption fee this Saturday

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter will be offering free adoptions for all dogs, cats, kittens and puppies on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
