McGowan returns to school district

Former Director of Public Education, Communications and Partnerships Mike McGowan returned to work at the Cherokee County School District May 2.

McGowan had been on an unpaid extended leave of absence since early January, while he sought treatment after a DUI arrest Dec. 17, 2010.

McGowan is working at the supervisor level, a step below the director level, in a strategic planning capacity in Accountability, Technology and Strategic Planning Department, said Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Management Trey Olson.

“Mr. McGowan’s return to work was predicated upon his successfully meeting multiple conditions and criteria, as determined by the Department of Personnel Management,” Olson said. McGowan’s former position is being filled by Barbara Jacoby, effective next week.

While directors within the system make between $95,000 and $120,000 annually, supervisors make between $85,000 and $107,000.
