Getting in a little action before the rains washed out the remainder of the week’s tennis throughout the county, the Sequoyah boys and girls each knocked off the visiting Forsyth Central Bulldogs, 3-2, on March 9.
Leading the way for the Sequoyah boys, Joey Knocke battled through a tough first-set before cruising through the second set for a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, while at No. 2 doubles, the team of John Gunther and Alex Dragoo charted a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Providing the final difference, T.J. Crossland and Brian Castro fought back from a first-set loss to post a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.
Splitting the first two sets, the Chiefs’ Brandon Castro was edged at No. 3 singles, with darkness forcing a tiebreaker to be played for the third set in his 4-6, 6-4, 7-9 decision.
The Lady Chiefs, meanwhile, combined a pair of singles’ wins with another at No. 1 doubles to earn their advantage over Forsyth Central.
No. 2 singles Anna King cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory, before Brittaney Mauldin won 7-5, 6-3, and the doubles team of Maddie Richardson and Anna Martino finished out a 6-0, 6-3 decision.
Coming up just shy of a victory, Katie Allgood and Claire Cates battled into a tiebreaker third set at No. 2 doubles before suffering a 4-6, 6-4, 10-12 setback.
The win for the Sequoyah boys (2-3) was their second straight after opening Region 7AAAA play with a 5-0 victory over Cass on March 4.
Picking up wins for the Chiefs were Jonathan Balchus at No. 1 singles, Knocke at 2 singles, Brandon Castro at 3 singles, Crossland and Brian Castro at 1 doubles, and Gunther and Dragoo at 2 doubles.
