Local couple scouts family-style deals

As a way to promote a new daily-deal site offering subscribers in Cherokee, Cobb, North Fulton and Forsyth counties up to 90 percent off on restaurants, children’s clothing, activity centers, classes and more, Canton resident Jennifer Gettens has turned her car into an advertisement on wheels.

“The first thing people ask me when they see my car is, ‘what do you guys do?’ and, ‘I love your logo,’” Gettens, who launched Coupsicle.com this past November with her husband, Kevin, said.

With 13 years of advertising experience under her belt, Gettens, a former Ledger-News sales manager, said Coupsicle.com was created after seeing a need in the community for a localized daily-deal site.

“People love daily deal sites, but most of them cater to young, urban singles in the greater Atlanta area,” said Gettens. “We felt there was a need for a new type of deal site geared toward kids and families in a more specific area.”

Meeting new people and watching businesses flourish also were reasons for launching the site.

After creating the idea for a localized daily-deal site, Gettens and her husband began drafting potential names that attracted both families and children. The pair settled on Coupsicle.com after a month of deliberation.

While Gettens resides in Canton with her husband, she grew up in Alpharetta and lived in Cumming, which was why it became imperative for Coupsicle.com to reach Cherokee, Cobb, North Fulton and Forsyth counties.

“I think most people are willing to travel to these counties because it allows them to stay in the area and provides places for families with kids to go,” she said.

Targeted toward families and busy moms, Coupsicle.com offers an array of deals that range from 40 percent to 90 percent off.

“The deals have to be a minimum of 40 percent off, but most businesses offer 50 percent off,” she said, adding that restaurants and birthday party locations are the most commonly purchased vouchers.

Obtaining the deals is simple — just sign up using an e-mail address.

“Once we have your e-mail, we will send the daily deal,” she said, adding that subscribers can also go onto Coupsicle.com and check out daily deals as well.

The company currently runs three to four deals each week, but Gettens said Coupsicle.com would be increasing to seven in the coming months. Since the inception of the site, Coupsicle.com has offered deals from more than 40 businesses and it continues to grow.

“Businesses and subscribers are increasing,” Gettens added.

Because the deals offered on Coupsicle.com cover a smaller geographical area than other deal sites, Gettens said the consumers are more likely to become regular customers of the business giving the discounts.

In addition to serving residents with daily discounts, Gettens said Coupsicle.com caters to the businesses on the site by offering a very competitive commission.

“They are always excited about it,” Gettens added.

Coupsicle.com also supports local schools and communities by providing fundraising programs, partners with local restaurants for “spirit nights” and participates in many local festivals and events, which are ways Gettens said they are able to spread the word about the company’s “great deals.”

“We go to events so we can actually meet people face to face; once we tell them people ask, ‘how can we sign up?’” she said, noting the company also does online promotions through social networking sites.

Gettens said Coupsicle.com also is gearing up for consignment sales, such as putting the company’s flyers in take-home bags from events. “We are doing anything to get our name out,” she said.
